Part of the Leicester Building Schools for the Future framework, this new-build comprises three distinct blocks situated on the old playing fields.
Block A is a two storey structure which includes the communal areas such as the main hall, library and dining areas. Block B is a three storey structure which contains all the teaching areas, laboratories and food technology rooms. Block C is the sports hall which includes changing facilities.
The building itself is a steel frame structure with colourful rendered panels and large glazed walling which allows natural sunlight to shine through.
The inside of the building is constructed in stud partitions with suspended ceilings throughout, which provide a bright and vibrant learning environment for its students.
Due to the close proximity and interfaces with the existing school, potentially disruptive activities were undertaken out of hours and co-ordinated around sensitive periods, such as exams.
Miller Construction redesigned the external landscaping to ensure that all materials from the cut exercise could be used on site and the demolition arisigns from the existing school were crushed and reused on site.
Upon completion, the old building was demolished to make way for a multi-use games area, hockey pitch, landscaped areas and car park.
