Miller Construction welcomes Ivor Goodsite to Local Schools

Miller Construction was joined today, by ‘Ivor Goodsite’ to promote site safety to pupils at New Ford Primary School and Blurton Primary School, Stoke-on-Trent.

Ivor Goodsite is the mascot for the Considerate Constructors Scheme, an independent national initiative which aims to improve the image of the construction industry by encouraging best practice beyond statutory requirements.

Miller Construction is undertaking the contracts at New Ford Primary School and Blurton Primary School as part of Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s plans to increase capacity at 15 of the city’s primary schools in the next two years.

John Sines, Project Manager, Miller Construction, said: “The pupils at New Ford and Blurton Primary Schools were delighted to receive a visit from Ivor Goodsite.  It is imperative to us to be active in the communities where we operate and to promote safety to local school children.  The summer holidays are fast approaching and we want to ensure that children understand the dangers of a construction site and are aware of how important it is to stay away from them.

“The lessons that the children have learnt, with the assistance of Ivor, will benefit them not only now but also later in life.”

During Ivor’s visit, safety talks and presentations were given by Miller Construction to each school year at both primary school’s, along with career talks to the older pupils.

Chris Webster, Chief Executive, Miller Construction, said: “The Considerate Constructors Scheme is incredibly important to us, as are the communities where we work.  It is essential to us that we ensure the safety of all who may be affected by the works we undertake.”

The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a completely independent measure, which monitors sites against a Code of Considerate Practice and covers areas including consideration for the public, environmental impact, cleanliness, being a good neighbour, as well as being responsible, respectful, safe and accountable.
