Miller Construction sponsor Barnsley College's Excellence Awards 2011

Miller Construction was delighted to be the main sponsor of the Barnsley College Excellence Awards, which celebrate the outstanding achievements of Barnsley College students and staff over the academic year.

This is the third year that the leading contractor, which has just completed the new £50m Barnsley College, has been the headline sponsor.

Of the 23 awards given, Garry Hope, Operations Director and Andrew Hurcomb, Operations Manager were delighted to present the prizes for ‘Learning for Living and Work’ and the ‘Overall Achievement Award’.

Speaking of the event, Garry Hope, said: “We are delighted to be involved in the Excellence Awards 2011.  We have sponsored the awards over the last three years while we have been building the new college and each year have come away from the evening inspired by the achievements of the young learners.

“We believe in local community involvement in areas where we are working, and have enjoyed a great relationship with the College.  This relationship has seen us not only use our expertise as leading contractors in the education environment to deliver their outstanding new facility, but integration with the College, through the provision of apprenticeships and opportunities for learners during the build process.

“Miller Construction handed over the keys for the new College in the same week as the Excellence Awards and we are confident that the first class learning facilities which have been delivered will see even greater excellence being achieved at Barnsley College.”

Over 300 guests including the Deputy Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, John Hayward and Mayor of Barnsley Karen Dyson, as well as Local MPs Dan Jarvis and Angela Smith attended the evening.
