Associate Director, PPP Started at Miller: 1978

As Associate Director in the Public Private Partnership Unit, I work on PFI projects in partnership with external organisations including facilities management companies, banks and lawyers. If the bid is successful I retain an executive role in the company which enters into the contract with the public sector client.

I joined Miller Construction straight from school. Surveying attracted me because of the opportunities to be sponsored in further education while working part-time.

I became "Apprentice Surveyor" - effectively dogsbody for a team of surveyors with copious on-the-job training - while I studied part-time. With the team's encouragement, I achieved full membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

I have stayed with Miller for so long partly because I have "moved" jobs regularly - averaging five years in each role. I've been Surveyor, Project Coordinator, Manager, Business Coordinator, Bid Manager and now Associate Director.

I've been fortunate to work with and for some very professional people throughout my time at Miller - those with charisma who command loyalty, those you would rely upon in times of stress and those who have been an inspiration to me.
