the UK’s top examples of sustainable design.

The Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award
British Construction Industry Awards 2007
Dalby Forest Visitor Centre
A key objective of this high specification building was to showcase sustainability in construction.
Most of the material and labour was locally sourced, the roof is made from recycled tyres and inner tubes, and it is designed in a way that allows it to be completely dismantled and recycled at the end of its service life.
Hadrian Awards 2009
Cardinal Hume School, Gateshead &
Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art
Held every two years, the Hadrian awards celebrate the best in architecture and the design of the built environment in the North East and Cumbria. Projects have to have been in use for at least a year to provide evidence of their effectiveness and feedback from their users.
Fifty buildings were entered and only six, two of which were built by Miller, received awards.
Enhanced Value LIFT Award 2009
Community Ventures Leeds
The LIFT Enhanced Value Award recognises partnership working that has enhanced value to the public sector,
in particular using innovative processes and structures to achieve effective multi-agency working.
Community Ventures Leeds (Leeds LIFTCo) formed a joint venture with GPs
to maximise the potential to add value for public sector partners in Leeds
(NHS Leeds and Leeds City Council).
Excellence in BSF Awards Grand Prix & School of the Year 2009
Beaumont Leys School
Beaumont Leys was named 'BSF School of the Year' and won the prestigious overall 'Grand Prix' in recognition of outstanding achievement across all areas of the national programme to improve educational outcomes for young people.
"From all of this year's BSF awards, one project stood out. Beaumont Leys opened 6 weeks ahead of schedule thanks to the strong relationship developed between the school, the local authority and the private sector partner, but the real difference - which I am delighted to have seen for myself - is in the attitude, self-esteem and motivation of the pupils after moving into their new school."
Tim Byles, Chief Executive of Partnerships for Schools
and Chair of the Excellence in BSF Awards
Construction Manager of the Year Award 2009
New Build / Refurbishment Projects £5M - 7M
Adrian Kelly - Wetherby Enhanced Primary Care Centre
On top of handing the building over an admirable two months early while still maintaining the budget, Adrian focused whole-heartedly on user satisfaction and made every possible effort to secure it.
He organised weekly visits and made sure that users drove the decisions which were crucial to them. Not surprisingly, the users love their new building.

British Council for Offices Awards (South West & South Wales)
Best Commercial Workplace
500 Brook Drive, Reading
Completed in summer 2009 for PruPrim, the £24m design & build Headquarters is located within the 180 acre Green Park in Reading.
The building has ‘all the makings of a vibrant corporate workplace’ and the team was commended for its contemporary design approach. The judges went on to say the attention to detail, combined with a good use of materials clearly demonstrates that all areas of the design had been thoroughly considered.
500 Brook Drive will now go forward to the National BCO Awards in October.
