Jack Flannery, a Year 6 pupil at Yarm School won the opportunity to start the demolition of part of the £9 million new build and refurbishment programme at his school.

Part of the re-development programme involved the demolition of one of the old buildings on the site to allow a new cutting edge performing arts studio and theatre to move in.

The main contract is centred on refurbishing parts of the existing Friarage building, converting a former dovecot into a new social space and creating a two storey performing arts centre, which will include a 750 seat auditorium, separate galleried 120 capacity teaching theatre, dance studio and music performance suite.  The performing arts centre is due for completion in autumn 2011.

New English and Modern Languages departments have also been built as well as new changing rooms and a specialist teaching facility for sports studies.

“We are really excited to see our building project get underway and can’t wait to move into our new facilities.”

David Dunn, Headmaster
