We were the main contractor for the project at Union Square which involved the development of a major retail and leisure space in the heart of Aberdeen City Centre.
The project involved the creation of 750,000 sq ft of retail and catering units set in a two storey shopping mall and a large department store stretching over three floors.
The project brought about the creation of the largest scheme of its type in Scotland, providing 42 retail, catering and leisure units, a multiplex cinema, 1,200 parking spaces and a 203-bed Jurys Inn hotel.
Positioned at Aberdeen Railway Station, the project incorporated a new Bus Station and Rail Station for Aberdeen, which is integrated into the shopping mall. Over £6 million of improvements were made to the railway station infrastructure and facilities including, new lifts and disabled access enhancements, which created approximately 1000 jobs.
The management of the public transport services formed an integral part of this development. Public transport services were given priority which ensured minimal disruption to commuters. A critical element of this project was to ensure all bus and rail works were completed prior to the commencement of the retail space.
