Tunstall Primary Care Centre, a new two storey facility, provides a modern health care environment which supports a high quality and accessible service. Developed by Dransfield Properties Limited, the centre was built on the former Alexandra Pottery site on Scotia road, relocating two local GP practises from the aging Dunning Street Health Centre.
The new building includes
- 2 Part Time and 2 Full Time GP Practices, which will serve 5,000 patients.
- A Dental Access Centre, District Nursing, Health Visiting, School Nursing and Specialist Nursing such as Diabetes and Heart Failure Clinics.
- Paediatric Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Speech Therapy.
- Dietetics, Continence Services and Orthoptics.
- Phlebotomy (Including anti-coagulation management).
Along with pedestrian and cycle access to the City’s Greenway Network, the new build also includes parking for 241 vehicles, landscaping and a courtyard garden for patients and visitors. A 5,000 sq ft Boots Pharmacy is also on site next to the facility.
Sections of the building are supported by modern steel frame work while surrounded by bright walls.
With businesses and a gym already established on Alexandra Park, the former pottery site, minimal disruption was important to secure a close working relationship with the Park’s staff which has been essential to ensure positive relations. Site management was extremely important to ensure production of a safe and an excitable future workplace for staff.
The new Tunstall Primary Care Centre was completed on schedule and opened in September, 2011.
