Rushey Mead is the fifth school, and the first in the second phase to be undertaken through the Leicester Building Schools for the Future framework.

This new build consists of three blocks constructed on existing live school campus and will include enhanced teaching facilities, new technologies and a six court sports hall to ensure accessible education for the local students and community.

Sections of the building will consist of bright walls and a glass facade, which will allow natural daylight to illuminate parts of the building.

Works are being undertaken in close proximity to the existing school, and a close working relationship has been essential to ensure positive relations in this live environment. This has included scheduling works around the school curriculum which have included concrete pile foundations, steel frame erection and concrete floor slab in Block C. 250m3 of concrete was required and this was delivered by over 100 lorries, and completed within a day.

This build marks the next stage in the successful partnership with Leicester City Council which is delivering leading learning environments for the 21st century.

The first phase of the BSF project was award winning and the completed schools have gone on to produce exemplary academic results and attendance records.

Rushey Mead’s new school is due for completion in May, 2013.

"On behalf of the Children's Capital Senior Stakeholder Group at Leicester City Council, I would like to thank you for the positive manner in which the site at Rushey Mead Secondary School is being run.

"The School has reported to the Assistant City Mayor, Councillor Vi Dempster, that they are thrilled with the relationship between the site staff and the running of the school. It has far exceeded their expectations."

David Martin, BSF Programme Director, Leicester City Council
