Key Information

Location: Edinburgh

Cost: £30.4 million

Size: 158 flats

Duration: 85 weeks

Additional Information: Client: Sanctuary Housing Association

Eight residential accommodation blocks on behalf of developer Sanctuary Housing Group, providing 158 flats and 800 state-of-the-art bedrooms with a BREEAM (British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) ‘Excellent’ rating for their environmentally-friendly and sustainable construction and operation.

The buildings feature insulated wall systems which are heated by a biomass source – derived from organic waste.

The Halls of Residence make use of a wood fired biomass boiler, fuelled by woodchip waste from a local forestry scheme, with a gas fired backup.

The student accommodation was completed on schedule and to budget in time for the 2007/2008 academic year.

"Throughout the build period I found Miller Construction to be extremely supportive and a very capable contractor with serious commitment to providing a quality product, on time and within our budgetary requirements.

"The site was maintained to an extremely high standard, reflecting Miller Construction's unparalleled commitment to health and safety."

Hilary Gardner, Commerial Director, Sanctuary Group
