The project for Inverclyde Council involves the intensive refurbishment and extension to the existing Primary School to form a fully modernised building. On completion the school will consist of a Nursery and specialist Gaelic language unit, offering placements for 450 school and 50 pre-school children.
When complete the large extension will comprise of six classrooms, a music room, toilets and cloakrooms.
The original accommodation will be remodelled and fully refurbished with new windows, doors, roof covering, insulation render finish externally, new built furniture and fittings, suspended ceilings and full redecoration. The services will be completely renewed with new heating, ventilation plumbing and drainage and the installation of a sprinkler system.
Electrical and communication installations will include power and lighting including emergency lighting, intruder and fire alarms, soundfield and induction loop systems, door access control systems, CCTV, period bells and PA systems, data installations and interactive whiteboards and ancillary power for services installations.
The project includes the fitting of roof mounted photovoltaic panels and the use of a higher performing glass. Instead of secondary steel, we have agreed to use timber which will reduce our carbon footprint considerably.
Natural ventilation will be incorporated throughout by using “windcatchers” in the zinc roof. We will also maximise natural lighting and have installed SUDs extensively.
External works will include a new car park, a reworking of the existing playground areas, paths, soft landscaping and planting and security fencing.
