Isle of Wight Sixth Form Centre

The Isle of Wight Sixth Form Centre, also known as F6rm, was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal in November 2010. The design and construction process was undertaken in conjunction with the college’s stakeholders and was completed on time and to budget in five months.
Constructed within a live environment, it was imperative that all works were carried out carefully to ensure minimal disruption to the daily activities of the college. The new three-storey building is a self contained block within the College campus and comprises top quality facilities, including science labs, high specification Apple Mac and PC suites, an art room, a dark room, social areas and teaching spaces.
The building consists of a steel frame with pre-cast concrete floors, a curtain walling system and rendered panels. Suspended ceilings are featured throughout the building.
The new 1,800 sqm purpose built Sixth Form Centre was designed to accommodate up to 500 students undertaking scientific and vocational courses in addition to mainstream academic subjects.
The project received a BREEAM “Very Good” rating for its sustainable features including natural ventilation, use of glazed areas and shading features, biodiversity and an external storage source for recycled water.
The surrounding areas include hard and soft landscaping.
The sports pitches were relocated to an adjacent field.
"Miller Construction has done the most amazing job and our staff and students are incredibly excited about being the first in the new building. The College has been very impressed by Miller Construction and particularly the on-site project team.
"We look forward to the possibility of working with Miller Construction (UK) Ltd on any future construction projects."
