The project for Heriot Watt University involves the construction of three buildings which will create 218 bed Student Residences and associated facilities at the Galashiels Campus in the Scottish Borders.
Due to the nature of the site’s topography the buildings will vary between 4 and 5 storeys in height. The buildings will be constructed on the site of the existing Heriot Watt University student residences. The Jackson Building will be demolished prior to new build works commencing to allow the construction of Pavilion 1 on the east side of the site. Pavilion 3 will be constructed on the crest of the hill immediately adjacent to the existing residence blocks A-D. An additional Gateway Building will be constructed at the north end of the site which will serve as the main entrance block to the site.
The existing residential blocks A-D and the Dining Block will be kept in operation throughout the entire building process and will be demolished upon completion of the new build works.
The new buildings are designed to achieve a BREEAM “Excellent” rating through the use of natural ventilation and maximising the use of natural daylight.
