Forth Valley College Apprentice
Miller Construction, currently building the new Alloa campus for Forth Valley College, has given a young student the opportunity to complete his apprenticeship by working on site at the new development.
Working in partnership with Forth Valley College, Miller Construction set up a placement for Kevin Palmer of Bannockburn (20), with MMBC Limited, one of the sub-contractors on site at the new Alloa campus.
Kevin originally started his apprenticeship in 2006 but in his third year, the company he was employed with was declared bankrupt and Kevin was paid off. Kevin struggled to find employment and another company willing to take him on to allow him to finish his apprenticeship, but his luck changed when he sent his CV into the college, seeking help to find a placement.
Working full-time on site at the Alloa campus, this opportunity will allow Kevin to re-start college in August 2011 and complete the third and fourth year of his bricklaying apprenticeship.
Miller Construction has committed to offering at least five apprenticeships to students during the projects at both Alloa and Stirling, enabling them to gain first hand experience of working on a live construction site.
Miller takes its commitment to the communities in which we operate very seriously ensuring that opportunities for local people are available. Working in partnership with both Forth Valley College and MMBC Limited, we were able to facilitate an opportunity for Kevin to progress with his apprenticeship whilst enhancing his personal development.
