Borders College Student Visit
Miller Construction welcomed ten bricklaying students from Borders College onto its site for Heriot Watt’s Galashiels Campus in the Scottish Borders.
The students visited the Galashiels Campus where Miller Construction is currently undertaking a £10.7 million contract for three student residence buildings.
The experience enabled pupils to have an insight into the construction industry and tour the site of the new campus as it was being built.
Senior Site Manager, Alister Robertson showed the students the site layout and development plans and gave a health and safety briefing before taking them on a guided tour where they were given the opportunity to learn about the bricklaying works on site.
Providing young people in the areas where we work with the necessary stepping stones to assist towards a career in construction is part of Miller Construction’s commitment to local communities. By giving students opportunities and experiences such as these, Miller Construction is investing in the future of the construction industry.
Miller Construction was awarded the contract for student residences at Heriot Watt’s Galashiels Campus in March 2011. Works are due for completion in Summer 2012 and will provide 218 bed Student Residence buildings and associated facilities.
